Hi everyone! I’m ready to share my first project of the month for Eileen Hull. This month’s theme is Old Project/New Twist. Though this is an old project I created last year. The new twist, for me, is I never shared it. Last year in August I was going to write the blog post but my back went out (which was very painful). I spent a month between going to the chiropractor and trying to rest and not aggravate the process of the doctor’s work on my back. Anyways, I’m better and sure don’t want to go through that again!

For this project I used the Handbound Journal Diecut, Hardware Diecut, RainBow Wheels Thinlits and Book Binding and Label Thinlits (retired) to create this journal. Let’s get started!

I applied Adhesive Sheets on both sides of three cut down pieces of Mat Board. This is for the front and back covers and the spine. I placed patterned cardstock on both sides of the covers. For the spine I placed a solid colored cardstock on the outside of the spine and a patterned on the inside. I ran all pieces through the Diecut Machine.

I “peeled” both sides of the spine back and left the center spine to create one signature. This lets the spine lay flat against the outside covers. I adhered both covers to either side of the spine. I cut to fit cardstock to cover the areas that I “peeled” from the spine and glued in place. I added elastic cording to the top and bottom holes on the spine and tied off.

I cut down a booklet with blank pages inside to fit the inside of the journal.

I adhered cardstock to the front and back of the booklet. I glued two strips of cardstock to the center of the booklet. I placed the smallest circle diecut from the RainBow Wheels Thinlits over the strips of cardstock and I glued another strip of cardstock over the circle diecut. I dug into my stash of embellishments and placed a floral arrangement with butterfly and a leaf sprig over the circle diecut. I opened the booklet to the center and slid under the elastic cording in the journal.

In this photo you can barely see the inside front cover where I accidentally had the cardstock turned upside down. So, I had to come up with a solution to somehow cover up my mistake. I cut a cover from the Handbound Journal Diecut and cut down and scored at 1/2″ in on the straight end of the cover. I applied a line of glue to the scored end and placed onto the inside cover.

I cut two of the bookbindings from the Book Binding and Label Thinlits (retired). I folded and cut to size and added glue to each “flap” end. I placed each flap on the top and bottom of the inside cover and attached to the cut down cover to create a pocket. I cut out one of the labels from the Hardware Diecut and the smallest spinner/arrow. I punched a hole in the center of the label and added a brad to the spinner/arrow and attached to the label. I adhered the label to the inside cover. This will keep everything in place and the pocket closed.

For the back inside cover I cut a strip of patterned cardstock applied glue to three sides and placed on the cover. This is a great way to keep up with notes, receipts, etc.

The front cover I cut the largest circle from the RainBow Wheels Thinlits and glued to the cover along with a floral embellishment and a leaf sprig from my stash. I finished by adding gray trim to cover the seam between the plain and patterned cardstock.
