DIY Summery Journal from Altered File Folder

Hi everyone! Even though we are now in September. I want to share a file folder that I had altered and turned into a summery journal. I actually had this finished and ready to share a couple of months ago. My dad passed away, and it’s been hard to get back into the swing of things. But I’m getting there. I didn’t do any step out photos of the process…sorry. Anyways let’s get started!

The file folder I measured and folded. I folded the top of both sides into the inside of the cover. This created tuck spots. I glued the bottom edge of both tuck spots to the inside cover.

I tucked some notebook paper to the back cover. I had cut it down and added a rub on from the 49 and Market: Rouge Collection.

The front inside tuck spot. I added glue to either end of a cut a part. This was done after I had decorated the cover…details of the cover will come later.

I added a couple journaling cards to the belly band. I also added another piece of notebook paper with rub ons to the tuck spot.

The cover of journal measures 6″x11 1/2″ after folding the tuck spots to the inside of the journal. I gathered up an assortment of cardstock, grid paper, large doily and watercolor paper. I cut to fit and folded in half before punching holes, in the fold of all pages and the cover. I threaded a needle with cording and stitched all together. I tied off on the outside of the cover.

I tied seam binding and fiber to cover where I had tied off on the spine. I also adhered trim to the back and front cover.

The cover I adhered a rectangle doily that I glued to the cover. The extra bit of the doily I wrapped and glued to the tuck spot of the inside. I dug into my stash of paper diecuts. I added a bingo card, frame and a floral image to the cover.

For the inside pages, I used an assortment of paper diecuts and embellishments.

I used one of the journaling cards as a tuck spot.

The two pages in one I thought was pretty cool.

I loved adding the bright green doily as a page to the journal. I also used a parking garage ticket as a tab on a page.

I used a sheet of watercolor paper in the journal. On the back side of the page, I fussy cut out a floral image from a scrap piece of cardstock. I adhered two of the sides to the page to create a pocket. I added scraps of cardstock as journaling spots to the pocket.

I used a journaling card that had a perforated edge. Instead of tearing it from the booklet it was in I carefully removed it with the perforated edge intact. I adhered to the top of the page. I added a strip of cardstock to cover where I tore it from the booklet.

I glued a journaling card along the bottom and added to the middle of the page. I created a tuck spot. I added a scrap of cardstock. I also included a journaling card and a paint chip. I had picked up the paint chip in the paint department at Walmart. These items were added to the tuck spot.

I added glue to the bottom of the “Good Times” cut a part. I placed it on the bottom of the page to create a tuck spot. I added a scrap of cardstock to the pocket.

I added a small Polk a dot paper bag to the side of the page. I secured it by adding washi tape to the page and bag. I glued a sentiment to the bag along with a butterfly embellishment. I placed a decorative journaling card inside of the bag.

I created another tuck spot with a decorative card from my stash.

I filled the tuck spot with journaling cards and scraps of cardstock.

More tuck spots and a flip up card for journaling or adding photos.

I dug into my stash and found this little felt flower and paper leaves I had not used. I thought it was a perfect addition to the page. On the opposite page, I glued another journaling card to the corner. I also added a scrap of cardstock with a sentiment.

The last page in the journal I adhered a butterfly diecut to the top of the page to finish.

This journal was so much fun to put together! If you don’t have file folders laying around your home, you can find them at places like Walmart and Target. You can also check your local office supply stores. For the rest, use what craft supplies you have on hand! You will be surprised how quick one of these journals comes together.

Condensed Snowflake December Daily Journal Reveal

Hi everyone! I’m back this week with the full reveal of my December Daily using Eileen Hull’s Full Size Journal Diecut. My motto it’s never to early to start working on a Christmas project…it’s my favorite time of year. So let’s get started!

All I had was the 6″x13″ Mat Board so I decided I would create a traveler’s notebook since I had notebooks on hand. Well, after applying Adhesive Sheets to both sides of the mat board and file folders to either side I cut two covers. One was a little off so I was going to even it up with my Paper Cutter…the cover slipped so I wound up cut both sides down to 3 1/2″ wide. Before adhesive the spine together I “peeled” one of the indented pieces of the spine off so the spine would be flat.

I cut a piece of polka dotted cardstock and adhered to the cover. Next I cut the circle from the Ornament Box Diecut and snowflake from the Wreath and Snowflake Thinlits and glued to the bottom corner of the journal.

I dressed up the snowflake with a mini snowflake ornament (I cut the hanger off), sequins, round and snowflakes, flatback pearls and the edges of the front and back covers I adhered Pom Pom Trim and gold Ric Rac.

Next I set eyelets in each hole before stringing elastic inside the journal and cut and placed cut patterned cardstock, notebook, accounting and dotted papers to create the inside signature.

Wonderland Tea Party Folio Part 3

Hi everyone! I am back with the final post of the Wonderland Tea Party Folio series. If you missed the first two posts you can find them HERE and HERE.

This page has no pockets or flaps but I used a printable as the main focus and added a leftover bit of decorative cardstock, lace and pom pom trim.

I dug into my stash of Prima flowers which I layered, added a button and used the leaf and leaf sprig thinlits from the Folio Page Pocket and Flowers Thinlits to finish off the flower.

I used the other insert that I had cut from the Photo Box Folder Diecut (retired) as an insert. All I added to it was the pointing finger sticker that I had in my stash.

I created this page with an assortment of printables, teacups, ticket stubs and a rabbit. The pocket holds a tag and cut a part and next to that is the Waterfall card that I cut from the Waterfall Card and Tags Thinlits. I glued three of the sides down to create a “pocket” to hold more tags.

This page I created a belly band to hold a little book.

The book I created from an assortment of scraps of cardstock, notebook paper and a page from an Alice in Wonderland story book.

I did take the largest tag thinlit and folded a piece of patterned cardstock in half, placed slightly below the “cut” of the thinlit to create a page to sew into this book.

The last page of the journal I kept pretty simple. I created a double pocket from a printable and dressed it up with more Prima flowers and another leaf thinlit.

I didn’t mention in the previous posts about the closure I “was” going to use on my folio. I had actually punched holes, added brads and strung elastic to hold the journal together but I didn’t go back far enough with the holes on the journal to keep the elastic in place…it kept slipping off. So I adhered a small strip of cardstock to the back of the journal and on the inside I glued a piece of cardstock on three sides to create a pocket. Not what I had originally envisioned but it works!

Wonderland Tea Party Folio Part 2

Hi everyone! I’m back and I want to share a couple pages from my Wonderland Tea Party Folio (part three I will try and share tomorrow). If by chance you missed part one of my folio reveal you can find that post HERE.

I used the Pocket Thinlit from the Folio Page Pocket and Flowers Thinlits to create a place to add tags and printables. I only glued it on two sides to create another pocket behind the pocket. I added a scalloped diecut from the Gift Box with Scallop Edges and Label Diecut that I had leftover from a previous project to the fold over on the pocket.

I adhered a couple of leaf sprigs that I had cut from the Folio Page Pocket and Flowers Thinlits to a crocheted flower that I had in my stash to dress it up a bit.

I adhered an empty tea bag ( I carefully cut the top of the tea bag to create a pocket) on two sides to create another pocket. I cut out two of the smallest size tags from the Waterfall Card and Tags Thinlits and added re-enforcers to the top of both tags. On one tag I glued the fussy cut image of the Mad Hatter to the top and on the other tag I added an Alice in Wonderland postage stamp from my stash. With this being a tea party theme I had to cut out a few of the teacups from the Teacup and Spoon Diecut and add as tag through out the journal.

The next page I matted with patterned cardstock and adhered a multi teacup printable (fussy cut) to create a pocket to hold the largest tag and teacup diecuts. I also added a teapot with tea time stickers to the bottom corner of the page.

I left the top of this page open so I could add an insert. I cut out two Photo Box Folders Diecuts (retired) (one to be used on an upcoming page) and glued a patterned cardstock, Alice image and oval diecut to one side of the insert. I adhered a fussy cut image to the tag too.

I used another printable that I fussy cut and adhered to create a pocket.

I embossed the tag with Queen of Heart Embossing Folder (retired), lightly inked over the embossed area with chalk ink and added a decorative brad to the top.

The next page I added another printable as a pocket.

I used the King of Spades Embossing Folder (retired) on this tag, lightly inked over the embossed area with a chalk ink and added the crown brad to the top of the tag.

This page has another set of double pockets with lots of tags and journaling cards.

Of course I had to add another teacup diecut to one of the pockets.

Wonderland Tea Party Folio Part 1

Hi everyone! I’m back today with a partial reveal of my folio that I created for Eileen Hull’s Chapter two Release Party (Thursday on my blog I’ll do a part 2 and maybe a part 3 on Friday…there’s a lot to share). I will start with how I created the cover of this folio so lets get started.

I cut two of the Folio Journal Diecut covers out from a file folder. Since the file folder isn’t as thick as the chipboard/mat board generally used to create the journal I ran each cover spine end first into the Diecut Machine. I ran that ends three to four times over the spine before finally running the whole diecut through the machine. I also used a bone folder to score the indention further before folded the spine on each cover and adhering together. Since I only ran the “cover” part of the diecut through once there is no indention . Plus it will be covered with cardstock/scrapbook paper to make it more sturdy.

I cut the “book hinge” from the Book Binding Thinlit, folded and applied Red Line Tape onto every other fold and stuck together.

I adhered the book hinge to the inside spine.

I cut patterned cardstock to fit/cover each side of the hinge. Instead of gluing each side of the page together I left an opening for a tag/insert. As you can see the initial folio started out tropical but with the cardstock being double sided I went with a colorful Alice in Wonderland instead.

The first page I used an assortment of leftover scraps, embellishments and printables. I glued only the bottom half of the heart to the page to create a pocket.

I applied an Adhesive Sheet to a piece of patterned cardstock before cutting out the wonderland sentiment from the Holiday Words Thinlits (retired). I glued/placed the chipboard letters that spell out Alice, the “in” sticker and the wonderland diecut onto the heart. The bunny is a printable and I used a flower and botton from my stash and I cut a leaf from the Folio Page, Pocket and Flowers Thinlits to complete.

As you can see there is a hidden surprise in the heart pocket! I cut two of the waterfall card thinlits out from Waterfall Card and Tags Thinlits to create the covers for a mini booklet. I cut the pages inside smaller, punched holes in the covers, pages and tied together with bakers twine. I decorated with a fussy cut image of Alice and a diecut frame to finish.

I cut a tag for the inside of the page and added re-enforcer thinlit to either side of the tag before tying off fabric to the tag.

I’m so excited about all of the new diecuts from this release and I can’t wait to share a sneak peek of my journal with you. For this project I used the Folio Journal Diecut and the flowers from the Folio Page Pocket and Flower Thinlits to create the cover.

I cut the journal from an extra thick file folder (love the floral design on the folder).

I cut two covers from the diecut and adhered the spine together.

I used an assortment of ephemera, craft supplies from my craft room (it’s a no spend month until my husband goes back to work) and the flowers thinlits from the Folio Page Pocket and Flower Thinlits to decorate the cover of the journal. Later this month I will share the inside of the journal so be sure to stop back by!

Christmas Memories Journal

Hey everyone! I’m back this week to share my project for Eileen Hull and the theme for this month is Season’s Greetings. Next month over in Eileen Hull’s Fan Club we are doing a Comfort and Joy Journal (December Daily) project with prompts and I decided I would at least get my journal cover cut out and decorated. (Trying to be a head of the game) I used the Journal Diecut for my project along with a couple other diecuts.

I cut a file folder down, still folded, to fit on top of the Journal Diecut and placed slightly past the cutting blade of the diecut (so I could have the spine intact) and run through the Diecut Machine.

This is how the cover looks once cut.

I re-enforced the spine on the outside and inside with patterned cardstock.

I adhered double mats of cardstock to the front and back covers and added a double matted banner to the lower corner of the front cover. I applied an Adhesive Sheet to a scrap of cardstock, cut the Christmas sentiment out from the Holiday Blessings Christmas Phrases Diecuts, added the “memories” sticker from the Big Chat Sticker Pad to the banner along with the Christmas diecut. I cut a piece of the puffy wreath sticker to look like it was behind the banner and added to the banner. I cut out the holly and berries from the Funky Festive Diecut Set and placed on the corner of the memories sticker.

I did add elastic cording to the spine and placed some cardstocks, wrapping paper, notebook paper, etc. but that could change. I haven’t decided if I’m going to add more pages or if I will move the pages around. I guess just what and see what I come up with. 😉

Pastel December Daily Glue Book Journal

Hi everyone! I’m back today with my Inspiration Team project I created for Eileen Hull. Truth be told I started this December Daily in 2017. 😮 Let’s face it no matter how hard I try I have never finished a December Daily. NEVER! I love looking at other peoples dailies and long to have one that has all the photos and documenting of my everyday life BUT in all honesty I don’t do anything exciting. I decorate the tree, wrap presents and then I get with my family and open the presents…see nothing really exciting. So I turned this into a glue book that I have been working on for the last three years. What is a glue book? It is a journal/book that you glue whatever you want to into it…pretty simple huh? 😊

I started this December Daily by cutting the covers from a file folder using the Journal Diecut.

I extended and reinforced the spine with an extra piece of the file folder once I glued the covers together.

I decorated the cover with and assortment of Christmas cardstock, trims and embellishments. The snowman and snow woman is a printable that I sized up before printing, fussy cutting and adhering to the cover. I also glued the clasp to the inside of the cover and tied a piece of cording with a tassel on the end to use as a closure.

I covered the spine with lace, then punched holes through the lace and run the elastic cording through the holes and tied off inside. I also sewed a button to the spine to wrap the cording with tassel to.

For the inside of the journal/glue book I used blank journals that I had purchased in a package of six from Target. They are the perfect size other than I had to cut off the ends so they would fit.

I used a deer printable that I had received in a swap to decorate the cover of the journal along with pom pom trim. On the inside cover I created a double belly band to hold scraps that will eventually make its way into this book.

This is the perfect way to use scraps of cardstock and printables.

I covered these pages with my collection of Christmas washi tape.

I have so much Christmas Washi Tape that I had to make a flap to hold the extras.

The Happy Holidays sentiment is an envelope I cut down to create a side pocket to hold tags and printables. I added pieces of patterned cardstock and an embellishment underneath the postage stamp.

On the other side of the page is the envelope flap that I decorated.

On the inside of the flap I added more cardstock and a little sentiment I had cut from a piece of cardstock. On the page I created a diagonal pocket to hold Christmas tags I had pulled off of the presents I had received that were to cute to throw away.

I also added bits of wrapping paper from past presents to the pages as a collage. There you have it a peek of some of the inside pages of my not so December Daily/Glue Book. As always if you have questions please let me know.

Bits and Pieces Mini Junk Journal

Hi everyone! I wanted to share a few photos and a mini video of a journal I created for Magnolia Exchange swap I am in. This month’s theme was mini mail whatever you send to your swap partner can’t be no bigger than 3″x4″.

After being paired up with my swap partner I decided to create a mini junk journal for her.

She liked all colors and liked all animals wither they had fur or was scaly. So I tried my best to include what I had in animal images through out the journal.

I raided my stash of stickers, scraps of cardstock and embellishments to decorate the inside.

Also I included a quick flip through video so you can see more of the inside.

Hi everyone! I am here with my Inspiration Team project for Eileen Hull using the new Journal Diecut. I am in LOVE with this diecut! So many ways to use it! Planner, scrapbook and of course journal.

I have a set of file folders with funny/snarky sayings on them and I thought this file folder with “Blah Blah” would be perfect to make a journal out of it. I had to carefully line up the wording and then I taped it down to the diecut before cutting out. Since both sides of the file folder has a design on it and it is made of a sturdy cardstock I just put together according to the directions. I added colorful patterned cardstock to the corner of the cover and an image that I printed and fussy cut from Tsunami Rose Designs.

I adhered lace and sewed a button to the spine.

The inside I added pockets and more fussy cut images from Tsunami Rose Designs. I attached the latch with adhesive and a decorative brad which I covered the prongs with a little washi tape.

I used as my closure a tassel with an attached cord and added elastic cording to the spine so I can add my own handmade journals.

I had a leftover piece of file folder which I turned into a book mark. I started by cutting two of the butterflies from the Birds and Butterflies Diecuts from felt. I added bits of lace, thread and cording to the butterfly before adhering to the top of the book mark. I added pearlized pins for antennas and a button and gem to the body. This is a great way to keep your spot in your journal and its cute too.😊

Of course if you are journaling on the go you need a way to store and take washi tape with you. From my Sizzix diecut packaging I used the Needle Book Diecut and cut a few of the needle books out and embossed with the Fantasy Flowers Embossing Folder. Next I cut several 12 inch pieces of washi tape and wrapped. Easy Peasy!

I also cut two House/Pocket Stitchlet Diecuts out and folded the “roof” down on each diecut and adhered a butterfly from the Birds and Butterflies Diecuts on the tip of the “roof”. I glued two of the corners down to the outside cover and now I have a place to hold washi tape and journaling cards.

Some of the washi tape cards I used a mini clothes pin to hold it in place.
