Christmas Time Snowman

Hi there! I’m here to share a quick little snowman that created using a 1″ SmoothFoam ball. I love making these little guys. So much fun and easy too! All I had to do was sand a little of the rough edge off of the ball, gesso and once dry I painted with a combination of off white and white acrylic paint. Once that dried I painted two black dots for eyes, a pink dot for the mouth and I “pounced on” some pink paint for the cheeks.

I had baked up a nose from orange Sculpey clay which I followed the direction on the packaging. I adhered the nose to the snowman and then applied Antique Mod Podge all over and then sprinkled with glitter. A way to make applying the glue and glitter easier I stuck a pin in it.

I drawed out a hat on copy paper and then traced out on cardstock which I then cut out and rolled up to create a hat. I ran a small line of glue on the edge of the hat and held until it was dry. Also be sure to leave a tiny hole in the top of the hat so you can run a pipe cleaner through. I curled the top of the pipe cleaner and the end that is inside of the hat I glued to inside of the hat. I finished off with tinsel around the hat and a small felt snowflake for the base. This can be used as a table decoration or it can be hung on the tree. The choice is yours. 🙂

Snowflake Snowman

Hi everyone! We are almost half way through August! Can you believe that??? Summer has sure flown for me. I have painted one of our bathroom and three coats of paint later I can say the walls are finished. Now all I need is to paint the trim and door, install the new light and flooring, vanity, mirror, faucet, make a curtain and I’m finished. 🙂
I want to share a snowman decoration I created. I received a box full of Smooth Foam ornaments last year for a blog hop and this is one of the leftovers I didn’t use in the hop.
First off I applied gesso to the ornament, let dry and then painted with white acrylic paint. While the ornament was drying I shaped a carrot nose from orange Sculpey Clay and baked according to the directions on the package. I also cut from a sheet of vintage sheet music a small hat. I rolled it into a cone and adhered together and glued silver tinsel along the bottom of the hat.

I adhered two black dew drops and carrot nose to the ornament shape, painted a dot for the mouth and then I applied Antique Mod Podge all over then covered in glitter.

I painted a chipboard snowflake white and once dry I applied antique Mod Podge and sprinkled glitter over the whole snowflake. I then adhered to the base of the ornament the snowflake, tied seam binding around the “neck” and finished off with dew drops to the bow and snowflake.

Lastly I glued the little hat to the snowman’s head. Easy peasy decoration to set out at Christmas or a super cute gift to give. 🙂

Red, White and Beautiful Snowman

Hi everyone! I’m here to share my project for Eileen Hull’s Art with Heart Challenge and this month’s theme is Red, White and Beautiful. I didn’t do the traditional 4th of July summery project but I decided to “practice” making snowmen. I’ve been asked to participate in a craft show in September (which I’m still trying to decide do I really want to do it) and I had bought a 4 ft kinda of silvery/looks like it has turned (vintage looking) tinsel tree I bought at Hobby Lobby for 66% off, after Christmas, and with lights too. The tree reminds me of when I was little and would go to my great grandmother’s house for Christmas. She had a big silver tinsel tree with the color wheel and I would sit in front of it and watch it change different colors. So cool! 🙂 I plan on making snowmen to add to the tree along with some of my other ornaments I have collected through the years.
I decided to try out Eileen Hull’s candy drawer on this project. I started by cutting out the candy drawer from mattboard and then cut out the drawer again with scrapbook paper. I inked and adhered the scrapbook paper to the drawer. I then assembled and adhered the drawer together and let dry. I used a combination of Zip Dry glue and Mod Podge and cloths pin to hold it together until it dried.

The snowman head I gessoed, painted with white acrylic paint and once dried I lightly drawed out the placing of its eyes, nose and mouth. The mouth I painted on with black acrylic paint and added pink for the cheeks. I shaped and then baked the “carrot nose” according to the direction on the Sculpey Clay packaging. Then I glued two Black Dew Drops and the carrot nose to create his face.

I applied Antique Mod Podge to all of the snowman’s head…nose and eyes too…and then glittered him up. Also I painted two Snowflakes Chipboard Diecuts white and added glitter to them too.

I have drawn out my own pattern to created the hat for my snowman. I roll it up first to determine where I’m going to glue it and to make sure the size is right. Once I’ve got that right I glue together and then adhere the tinsel twine around the brim and then glue to the snowman’s head.

I also cut out a medallion diecut, assemble and glue to the top of the candy drawer along with a snowflake diecut. Then I adhered the head on top of the snowflake. I also added a snowflake and button to the drawer to top it off. Now all I have to do is fill it up with goodies when Christmas rolls around and give it to that someone special. 🙂

Time Captured

Hi everyone! I’m back to share a project using the Lodge Collection from the Robin’s Nest. It is new and I simply love this collection!!! I can definitely see it being used for outdoor or Christmas themed projects in my future. 🙂

For this project I used two empty snus tins that my son (I dislike that my son uses this stuff…insert motherly frowning face) was going to throw away and crafty person that I am knew I could alter them and turn them into something fun and this is what I came up with.

First off you will need the bottoms from both of the tins.

I used a fine tip black Sharpie to mark the holes on the tin by using the hinge as a pattern. Next I used the bottle cap hole punch to punch holes in the tin.

I made sure the hinge worked and brads would fit through the holes of the tin.

I gessoed both tins, let dry and then painted with Folk Art Tapioca acrylic paint and once that dried I used Vintage Photo Distress Crackle Paint over the top of that.

Next I cut two 7 inch pieces of Natural Twine and adhered middle way on each side of the tin.

Next I cut a small piece of Forest Tree Specialty paper and a strip of Mens Plaid/Compass Cardstock which I folded to give it a pleated look. Also both of these paper/cardstock are double side which means you get more bang for your buck. 🙂

From the Lodge CutOuts Cardstock I cut one of the cards that has a clock on it. I roughed it up and inked the edges. I had this old watch that the paint was coming off around the edges and didn’t work any more so I wound up adding just a little copper stain to it to add a vintage feel to it. I punched a circle from the Mens Plaid/Compass Cardstock and added beads and Beaches Dew/Tear Drops inside the watch face and adhered to the corner of the cutout.

I adhered the circle over the back of the watch and once dry I adhered the whole thing to the top of the tin.

To finish out the front I used a dew drop, sequin, buttons, ribbon, verbiage from Cassi’s Creations. I also punched two leaves from the Wrap Glitter Cardstock and inked and crumpled before adhering to the corner of the watch face.

I cut two pieces of Mens Plaid/Compass Cardstock to fit the inside of the tin which I inked and the adhered to the inside. I didn’t like the way it looked and I decided to add Natural Twine around the edges. To finish it off and cover the ends of the twine I punched out more leaves from the Wrap Glitter Cardstock and adhered to the corners and then topped off with an acorn button and a mini pine cone that I had received from a swap.

This could either be used as a tiny trinket holder or you could add some mini photos inside.
Since I have two lids leftover from these snus tins I wonder what I create with them??? Be sure to check back in the future and see what I create with these. 😉

Garden Bunny Basket

Hi everyone! First off I would like to welcome you to the Robin’s Nest Garden Blog Hop! Now I would like to share a quick project that is originally something that you would use to start plants in your garden with. When I went to Lowes I found two sizes of peat pots but I went with the larger size I figured it was the prefect size to alter and create an adorable basket.

I had very little Caribbean Blue acrylic paint leftover from another project so I mixed that paint with white and painted the peat pot. I let dry and then I used Antique Mod Podge to seal it.

I punched holes on either side of the pot and I run an iridescent pipe cleaner through each hole to make the handle. I adhered half of a doily and ric rac around the top of the pot. I created a banner and a rosette and glued on top of the doily. Next I fussy cut from the Vintage Easter Greetings sheet a bunny. I punched a circle from the Moss Green Glitter Cardstock and adhered on top of the banner and rosette.

I cut four flowers from the Pink Glitter Cardstock using the Flower #3 die and I used green scraps of cardstock to cut the leaves out. I used a stylus to give the flower petals and leaves shape. Then I adhered together and added buttons, sequins and a Pearl Dew Drop (Crimson Mini Dew Drops). I glued it to the side of the handle.

That’s a pretty easy project, huh??? Now all I have to do is add some more goodies. 🙂

Do You Hear Spring Calling?

Hi everyone and Happy Spring! I’m here to share my project for the Robin’s Nest. This month I used the Spring Collection which is 20% off this month and I might say it is simply springy. Also we are cross promoting with Altered Pages which has some awesome vintage collage images.
I have an over abundance of buttons, lace, ribbon, charms, ephemera from swaps and I really want to get it contained into one storage container. Well, this is what I came up with…an altered egg carton!!! It has 18 cups to put away tidbits of crafty goodness.

I started with gessoing the egg carton inside and out. Once the gesso is dry paint with acrylic paint. I didn’t paint the top or inside of the lid because I would be covering it with cardstock.

Next cut two Green Butterfly Glitter Cardstock (I used the backside of the cardstock) to fit the top and inside of the lid.

Adhere to the top of the lid.

Also to the inside lid…I inked around the edges of the cardstock to add more color.

I added Moss Green Glitter Cardstock to the top along with Purple Ants Glitter Cardstock and Spring Stripe Glitter Cardstock which I made banners out of and adhered to the lid. Next I glued lace around the outer edge of the egg carton.

I used this Metallic Blue Christmas Trim that I got on clearance for 40 cents at Hobby Lobby…I love a great deal! 🙂 I glued it just above the lace all the way around. I then added sequins and Beach Dew/Tear Drops to ever other “bead”.

I fussy cut from the Little Spring Birdies collage sheet a bird and nest with baby birds and adhered them to the corners of the lid and then decorated with paper flowers (some store bought and some handmade), dew drops, gems that were rescued from a damaged prom dress and mini Easter eggs. I also added Stickles to the images.

The most time consuming part of altering this egg carton was the gessoing and the painting. Other than that it is easy peasy to decorate. 🙂

I have already added my collection of goodies to all the cups. Now I will be able to have them at my fingertips when I need to add the right little something to one of the many projects I have going on.

Also notice I added a dew drop to each “tip” of each cup. 🙂

This and That

Hi everyone! It’s me Tonya and I’m back this month to share what I created using the Regency Collections that is 20% off this month over at the Robin’s Nest and Heartfelt Creations which we are crossing promoting.
I kinda went crazy this month with projects. Instead of just one I have the box I altered into a ATC holder, eight ATC cards and one card using all these wonderful products.
If you are ready lets get started. 🙂

For the ATC holder first I found a box that was 3 1/2″x5″. Find the center of the box on the 3 1/2″ side, mark and drew a line down to the other 3 1/2″ side. Cut and then folded down on either side to make holder more sturdy.

Make small holes for the “feet” that will hold up the box. Next gesso the sides and bottom of box.

Once the gesso is dry paint the sides and bottom of the box with black acrylic paint. Let dry. Cut five pieces of cardstock to cover the sides from the Gold Glitter Paisley Cardstock. I cut these a little bit smaller so a little of the black paint would show on the box. Also measure the inside bottom of the box and cut from the black glitter chipboard a piece to fit inside. I embossed it with the Flourish embossing folder and used Sahara Sand Chalk Ink to ink the edges of all the cardstock to give it an “aged” look. Adhere the Gold Glitter Paisley Cardstock to the sides and bottom of the holder. Next attach the “feet” to each corner of the holder with the brads that are included. Now adhere the black glitter chipboard to the inside of the holder.

I used Gold Glitter Chipboard to cut out the book plate that is on the front of my ATC holder. This diecut is from the Heartfelt Creations Burnished Key Custom Design Die Template. I printed the “This & That” sentiment from the computer and inked it to give it a vintage feel. I added an old ear ring that I had received in a swap several years. At the time I didn’t know what I would even use it for??? Now it is the perfect addition to the bookplate and to top it off I added a purple Dew Drop.

Don’t you think the holder has an elegant and vintage feel???

The next project I created was some ATCs for my little holder. If you don’t know what an ATC is here is the definition I pulled from the Internet.

Artist trading cards are miniature works of art about the same size as modern trading cards baseball cards, or 2 1⁄2 by 3 1⁄2 inches, small enough to fit inside standard card-collector pockets, sleeves or sheets.

I’m a firm believer in using up scraps of cardstock and scrapbook paper that I have laying around. Yes, I have hoarder tendencies…lol
I started with base of the ATC using the Vanilla Fluer Glitter Cardstock. It is double sided The children are from a digital sheet I got from Cassi’s Creations. I fussie cut, chalked and added scraps of cardstock, dew drops, button, stickers and sentiments…printed from the computer and stamped. Also I found this mini playing card that I thought was perfect for the little “king of hearts”.

The base of these two ATCs are cut from Gold Classic Swirl Glitter Cardstock. I inked both bases with chalk ink which turned nice. The butterflies I cut from scraps of Robin’s Nest cardstock using the Bigz Beautiful Butterflies die. Adhered to the card along with a zipper pull, sequin, gold dew drops and dress pins for antennas.
The other ATC I cut from scraps a heart from the Hearts and Brackets die which I embossed with Gear Box embossing folder and added sprockets gears, game spinner also. I used the Burnished Key Custom Design Die Template to cut out a lock and key from the gold glitter Chipboard. Inked and then attached it with a ring fastener.

For the base of the lion ATC I used Calmity Jane Rose Glitter Cardstock, fussie cut the lion from the Red Lion Cardstock, used scraps and a sticker from the Regency Sticker Set.
The friend is ATC base is cut from Gold Classic Swirl Glitter Cardstock and inked in chalk ink. The sentiment is from the Clearly the Right Words stamp set and to top everything off I used a dolie and bird chipboard pieces, scraps of scrapbook paper, button and twine.

Both of these bases are cut from Gold Glitter Paisley Cardstock and the Cathedral Speciality Paper was used as an accent. Scraps were used on both along with a dress form and butterfly chipboard pieces, dew drops, flower punches, sentiments printed from the computer. The “grumpy fairy” is an image I cut from a Crafty Secrets sheet. The only problem was I had clipped off of the back side of the sheet another image and my fairy was missing an arm so I created the sign to cover up the fact she is a one armed fairy.

I hope you liked the ATCs I created for my holder. The plan is to use up scraps on ATCs and fill this little holder up. 🙂

Also I had to come up with a card for my secret sister and since I had leftovers I decided to create a card. So I’m going to share. 🙂
I cut a 5″x6 1/2″ (approximate) card base from Gold Glitter Paisley Cardstock. I cut from the Vanilla Fluer Glitter Cardstock a piece a little bit smaller than the card base and stamped with the Summer Seasons Pre-cut Set from Heartfelt Creations in Timber Brown StazOn Ink.

Next I cut a piece of Cathedral Speciality Paper and adhered to the stamped piece. I embossed one end with the Fleur De Lis embossing folder and then inked all the edges.

I used some of the stickers from the Regency Sticker Set.

I started with the black Fleur De Lis tag sticker and used Robin’s Nest scraps to make two banners to add to the tag.

The little girl digital image is from Cassi’s Creations. I wanted to add a little bit more color to her so I dragged out my chalk pastels (I’ve had these since elementary school…lol) and used a swab to add color to hair, cheeks and dress.

I also added a tab sticker which I stamped with Hello and I cut a Fleur De Les from the back side of the Gold Glitter Paisley Cardstock using the Fleur De Lis and Eiffel Tower diecut and added to the corner of the card. I topped it off with a Black Diamond Dew Drop.

Christmas Junk Journal Part One

Hi everyone! Wow!!! Christmas is almost here and if you are like me you have good intentions of making gifts for everyone and then you run out of time. Well, I’m here to share a junk journal I created using the Christmas Collection (North Pole) which is 20% off this month over at the Robin’s Nest. These journals are really easy to make and you can knock out several in no time.
The bases for a junk journal is to use what you have on hand. You can use old maps, wall paper, sheets of music, paperbags, pages from books, old ledgers pages, etc. You will need a variety of what I just listed (nine pieces) I started with a 9″x12″ envelope which I folded in half. The papers and bags I chose are smaller and fold those in half too.

Next make a guide on paper of where to poke holes in the spine of the journal and then mark your holes for each page. I have a bottle cap hole punch I used. It works perfectly when you punch each page folded.

Next thread about a yard in a half of red and white baker’s twine on a needle and stitch all pages together and tie off on the spine.

The inside of the journal should look something like this before you start adding cardstock and embellishments.

The cover I used Black and White Holly cardstock which I cut just a little bit smaller than the outside cover. I then inked the cardstock with Powder Puff Limeade Chalking Ink to add just a little more color to it. Next cut a yard of green seam binding in half and adhere to the front and back covers and then glue the Black and White Holly cardstock to the front and back covers. Also the little tag that is attached to the baker’s twine is from a Christmas present tag that I thought was too cute to throw away…which I have several I have saved through the years not knowing what I could use them on. Well, now I do. 🙂

Next to add embellishments to the front cover!!! I added a glimmer misted paper doily with a snowflake ornament with Pearl Dew Drops, St. Nick printable from Ephemera’s Vintage Garden… I also used the backside of Black and White Holly cardstock to matt the St. Nick printout and I also used the Celtic Border Punch from Purple Cows site which is one of our sponsors this month to make the “distressed” border around one of the corners of the matt. Pretty cool huh? So when you get a chance be sure to check out their website for some super fun punches and dies. I also used the Sizzix Medallion diecut is cut from the backside of Snow Covered Glitter Cardstock…which I inked with Limeade chalk ink, book plate, with dew drops and last but not least I cut a banner from Red Distressed Cardstock. There you have it the front cover decorated.

The inside was so fun to decorate. I used a variety of found objects such as Christmas present tags, stickers and embellishments I received in swaps and also Robin’s Nest product too. The inside cover I used the backside of Red Snowflake Cardstock and the opposite page I used Jolly Dew Drops to decorate Sizzix Christmas Tree Album diecut that cut out from corrugated box and then painted with acrylic paint.

I added a Black journaling block which I made into a pocket to hold the Christmas present tags I had saved. Since the tags had writing on the back I covered them with some scraps of cardstock. Also I used a digi image from Printable from Ephemera’s Vintage Garden and fussy cut it out and added it to the journaling block.

I cut a stripe of the Red Snowflake Cardstock and adhered on three side to the page to make a pocket, next I added sequins and dew drops to the center of each snowflake. The opposite page I added a few snowflake stickers with a dew drop in the center of each and spelled out North Pole using red alphabet stickers.

The pull out tag I cut from Flame Glitter Swirl cardstock is actually big enough to add several photos and journaling.

I kept both of these pages simple. I used Spellbinder’s Oval die to cut Black and White Glitter Pine Tree cardstock die along with a wooden snowflake that I glimmer misted a wooden snowflake and added a Red snowflake, button and dew drop. The music sheet page I simple punched from the Red Distressed Cardstock a scalloped circle and used a cut out and wha-laaa!!!
